Our Story
It all started with a little house on the North Side of Spokane, WA.
An idea 7 years in the making.
From the third generation pure bred show dog to the “I’m not one hundred percent sure but probably some kind of hound dog and maybe a little bit Jack Russell” shelter pup; we believe that no one dog is better than rest and every single canine companion deserves nothing less than the best.
2019
Middle-Of-No Where, MT
Our story is a long one, with many happy parts and a few sad ones. And like any good story, ours began with the love of a really great dog. Tallulah was what many in the dog world would consider a heart dog, not just for her owner, but for most of the people that were lucky enough to meet her. Full of the love usually attributed to a Golden retriever, a confidence too big for a dog so small, and boundless energy, Lou was the butterfly whose wings would cause a ripple that changed the lives of many people. One Craigslist ad that led to a home-ran butchers shop in the middle-of-nowhere Montana and two undergrad Anthrozoology students on a road trip, this story started out like a bad horror film. But instead of a “wrong turn” scenario, this adventure resulted in a pudgy little corgi mix with a pink nose and one blue eye.
2020
Back Home, WA
Lou, along with her big sister Georgia, became our travel buddies all around the PNW and when COVID happened she came back home with us to WA. She also went to work with Asriel at her family's manufacturing business and quickly became a super star around the work place. Tallulah was the muse behind the first rope toys and leather leashes we made.
2021
Middle-Of-No Where, MT
Tallulah’s time with us was not nearly long enough, and when she was gone we thought there would never be a way to fill the void she left behind. Like the saying “the brightest stars burn the fastest” we knew that Lou had come into our lives like a shooting star. While a love like Lou’s could never be replaced, she became a guiding light all the way back to that backwoods butcher in Montana, a litter of pudgy little puppies, a pink little nose, and bright blue eyes.
2021
We'll take 'em all
It turned out that small litter of just three puppies were all direct siblings of Lou, and we didn’t have the heart to leave a single one of her brothers or sister behind. So, all three puppies came back to Washington with us. Juniper and Fergus, found their forever homes with close friends and family, while sweet Augustus became a permanent part of our lives.
2021-Present
Our Heart
Auggie carries so much of the same verve and spirit as his sister Lou, and through these two dogs the beginning of Lesser Dog started to take shape. Over the next few years our dogs went on countless adventures with us, and we even added one more corgi to our pack. We were always in need of new leashes of varying lengths and durability for puppy classes, camping trips, and walks around the neighborhood.
We started Lesser Dog Co. in memory of Tallulah and the impact she had on our lives and will continue our mission of providing high quality gear to the dogs who may otherwise have been thought of as lesser.
